My dad still likes to go up to the ticket window, wait in line, and buy his tickets in person. He says it makes whatever game he's attending feel more real. By "real" he means "old-fashioned." But these days you never know if a game will be sold out when you get there. Plus, I like knowing ahead of time where I'm sitting. So I buy my sports tickets online every time. They arrive in my mail, or even my email. I know I've got a seat, and I know where it is. And then I've got more time to wait in the important line - the beer one. :)

I got some Rockies MLB tickets for tomorrow's game, and it turns out it's Matt Holliday Bobblehead night. Ha. My nephew will love it.

What is the deal with bobbleheads? They came out of nowhere several years ago, and now you can even bobble yourself! I do have to admit they make me laugh a little, so I guess that's all it takes for a phenomenon to take off.

I had completely forgotten that Carmelo Anthony was on the team for the last Olympics, too. I was reading this article about him going to Beijing, and it talked about his last performance. He was Male Athlete of the Year! Now he's got more experience, so I'm hoping he'll lead our team to the gold. Good luck!

Ok, so the Nuggets have won five straight games and tonight they play the Bulls, and with their recent record, they should beat them too. That'd be 6 in a row - still not the best record in the NBA, but at least we're on top in the Northwest Division. Let's cross our fingers!

"From GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo. -- Denver Nuggets reserve forward DerMarr Johnson was charged with resisting arrest and interfering with police during a disturbance outside a nightclub. Police said they used a taser to calm the 6-foot-9 player.

"He apparently would not cooperate," police Lt. Randy Corbitt said."

Supposedly, he was breaking up a fight between the two women. That's fine and all, but when the police tell you to stand down, don't you think maybe you should do it?

Three Denver Nuggets and 4 New York Knicks players were suspended for at least one game after a fight broke out at the end of their game on Saturday. Carmelo Anthony was suspended for 15 games, Nate Robinson was suspended for 10 games, and J.R. Smith was suspended for 10 games. They were the 3 players that were suspended the longest amount of time. I've watched the tape highlights over and over again and I'm not sure why Carmelo Anthony was suspended for more games than the other two. The main fight seemed to be between Nate Robinson and J.R. Smith. What did Anthony do that would cause him to be suspended for longer? Anyone?

Last week, Denver Nuggets players Jamal Sampson and Earl Boykins, helped out with a national initiative called Lift Up America. Currently, Lift Up America is sponsored by Tyson Foods, Luxottica, Starkey Hearing, and Interstate Batteries. Boykins and Sampson helped distribute 30,000 lbs of chicken and 4,000 batteries to 35 different Denver agencies that provide services to low income families and the homeless. Like a lot of other professional basketball teams, the Denver Nuggets are helping out during this season of caring. Kudos!

The Denver Nuggets forward and captain, Carmelo Anthony, has provided one of the largest donations that the Syracuse University Athletics has ever seen. The 3 million dollar donation would pay for the construction of a new basketball practice facility that can house two practice courts, locker rooms, and office facilities for the men's and women's basketball programs at Syracuse. Well, so much for Denver Nuggets forward Kenyon Martin... he's out the rest of the season because of that bad right knee. Why is it every time I get excited about someone they end up injured? Maybe I should just sell my tickets now and not go to any of the games, or a blimp will fall on the arena and take out the whole team in one fell swoop.

Unlike the previous outing against the L.A. Clippers, where he got ejected, Carmelo Anthony stuck around and gave the Denver Nuggets 28 points against the Minnesota Timberwolves. If only he could have added just a few more. It wasn't for lack of trying -- he took four tries in the last 14 seconds of play. But that left the T'Wolves on top, 112-109.

The NBA season is just getting underway, but I notice lots of teams have already had a chance to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Just so our Nuggets don't make a habit of it.

Speaking of getting well, sounds like Julius Hodge might actually make it back onto the court with the Denver Nuggets after the shooting he suffered back in April - if they decide to sign him, that is. Personally, I think they should do it. Best case scenario, he does great and turns into a real crowd draw (who wouldn't buy a ticket to see such a great story of courage and heart and all that, right?). Worst case scenario, they could always make a movie out of it...

Well, good news and bad news for the Nuggests. Good news - Kenyon Martin brought in 20 points and eight rebounds against the Indiana Pacers, leading them to a 114-102 win Wednesday night at U.S. Bank Arena. Bad news - he couldn't walk after the third quarter.

It's hard to believe we're only 2 weeks away from the 2006-2007 NBA season! I'm trying to find time to watch more updates on my teams on TV, but I find myself online more often than not. I found a good page here thatwill probably keep me occupied for the next couple hours. Seems like a good read, and not only because of his optimistic attitude toward the Denver Nuggets. (But that helps.)

The decision's made - George Karl stays on with the Denver Nuggets until 2009! Seems like a no-brainer to me given his performance these last three years, but I suppose it's always nice to feel appreciated.

I can’t claim that I've been keeping up with players as well as I should. I check news and read over some of the fluff here and there. I’ve been pretty busy lately. So today I’m reading along and here is something I found really impressive. Earl Boykins of the Denver Nuggets is the second shortest NBA player in history at 5’5”, only to be beat by Muggsy Bogues who was two inches shorter. Maybe it’s me but I love these underdog stories, it makes you feel good inside, like the first time I watched Joe Dirt. My buddies at the office teased me for sporting my blonde mullet wig I bought at Party Pig but I stood firm and they don’t tease me anymore.

The most impressive thing that I read about Boykins is that he can bench press 315 lbs. I dunno about you but I’m keeping Boykins on my speed dial, just in case the neighbors complain about the transmission I have sittin’ in the front yard.

The Nuggets re-signed Reggie Evans recently for a multi-year contract. Warkentien said he highly values the role Evans played last season in the Nuggets’ sweep of the Northwest Division. He was one of the best rebounders in the NBA by the minute last season, averaging 8.7 rebounds per game in 23.3 minutes over 26 games. His career average with the Sonics and Nuggets is 7.3 rebounds per game in 288 games.

I’ve been gone for awhile, but during the summer there’s more MLB action than NBA anyway. And one thing about baseball that I normally like – sometimes your ticket buys you extra innings. So the other night, when Colorado Rockies fans got 9 extra inings, or two games’ worth of play for the price of one, what was the problem? The final score: Arizona Diamondbacks 2, Rockies 1.

5-plus hours on the field is pretty unusual, but there were two games that went 18 innings Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. Over at Minute Maid Park, the Chicago Cubs held on to beat the Houston Astros 8-6.

When the Denver Nuggets crashed out to the LA Clippers in this year’s playoffs, I continued to watch the games and I felt like the Dallas Mavericks would be the team to beat this year. I like their mix of tall jump shots and aggressive drives; it was when they failed to take the ball to the hoop that they started to lose their way. I think we will see a lot more cover and drive style plays this year, even against the mighty Shaquille O’Neal.

Well, now that Denver is out, I am rooting for the Dallas Mavericks to win the championship. I think that Dirk Nowitzki deserves just as much attention as Steve Nash for his contribution this year. Dirk is my MVP for sure and I can’t wait to see what he and Josh Howard have cooked up for the Suns on Tuesday. Tonight the Miami Heat play the Detroit Pistons and they have the chance to make it 3-1 if they win. After Saturday’s game I think that the Heat have the competitive edge and I can’t wait to watch them go up against the Mavericks in the Finals.

The Denver Nuggets were knocked out in the first round of the playoffs by the Los Angeles Clippers. Carmelo Anthony and The Clippers have not advanced to the second round of the playoffs for over 25 years and it just looks like it is their year and not the Nuggets. It is unfortunate but true. I guess this is where I say “there’s always next year”.

The Denver Nuggets played an impressive game on Saturday against the Golden State Warriors. Carmelo Anthony scored 28 points and Marcus Camby had 17 rebounds. If they can go into their game against the Portland Trailblazers with the same kind of energy then the Nuggets will secure a playoff spot and the division title. Go Nuggs!

Two Denver Nuggets fans claim that after hearing himself called a chump for not being suited up for the game, Kenyon Martin sent a friend into the stands to deal with the fans. The friend approached two men, started making derogatory comments and allegedly said:
"You're going to get hurt, white boy."
The fans also claim they were threatened by Martin and two friends after the game as well.

Kenyon Martin Recap

Now that we are in the off-season, it’s a good time to take a look back on the positive things of our season. One of these positive notes would be Kenyon Martin. Martin came to the NBA after the 2000 draft where he was the first overall choice by the New Jersey Nets. He played with the Nets for four seasons before moving to the Denver Nuggets.

During the regular season, Martin was able to average 15.5 ppg, with 7.3 rpg, and 1.43 spg. Martin participated in all 5 of Denver’s Playoff games and averaged 12.4 ppg in postseason.

Martin put in his career-high 27 points in a game against the New York Knicks on February 1st.

Marcus Camby

Respected recently by being named one of the top NBA defenders, Marcus Camby has been an extremely prolific center for the Denver Nuggets. They have not had anyone named from this position since Dikembe Mutombo.

Camby was able to average 10.3 ppg with an average of 10 rebounding and 2.3 assists. One of Camby’s most prolific games was against the San Antonio Spurs on April 30th, where he made 14 defensive rebounds, 2 assists, and 5 blocks.

Camby has been with the Nuggets since 2002 when he came over from New York.

Kenyon Martin

Denver Nuggets forward Kenyon Martin had successful arthroscopic surgery on his left knee today. Dr. Steve Traina, the Nuggets team physician, performed the surgery.

Martin will begin rehabilitation in 10 days to two weeks. His prognosis is excellent for next season.

Martin appeared in 70 games for the Nuggets this past season, averaging 15.5 ppg, 7.3 rpg, 1.43 spg and 1.11 bpg.

Denver Nuggets Head Coach George Karl was named Western Conference Coach of the Month for March, the NBA announced today. Karl also earned Western Conference Coach of the Month honors for February.

Karl led the Nuggets to a 12-2 record in March – the second-best record for a month in team history. In 1981-82, the Nuggets went 13-2 in March. The Nuggets went 9-1 at home and 3-1 on the road. They posted their first winning road record in a month since April 1995.

The Nuggets had the best record in the NBA in March and put together winning streaks of five and six games. They outscored their opponents, 109.2 ppg to 96.8 ppg. They shot .493 from the field, while holding the opposition to .431. To close out the month, the Nuggets averaged 117.1 ppg on .532 shooting from the field over their last seven games.

This is the ninth time Karl has earned Coach of the Month honors, tying Pat Riley and Phil Jackson for the most in NBA history. Phoenix Back in Action

A few days after suffering their worst defeat of the season, the Phoenix Suns rose up and showed what they were truly made of. Just recently, Phoenix took a crushing blow from Houston losing 127-107 after holding a 17 point lead.

Now in this game, Phoenix beat Denver 106-101. After playing rather shaky throughout the first half, the Suns picked it up in the second and showed what the team was truly made of.

The Denver Nuggets took the win with a score of 111-98 during a home game this past Monday. This was a very impressive win on account of having their inside force sitting on the bench. Marcus Camby was taken off the line due to a strained right hamstring. But, the Nuggets played like they had no parts missing from the puzzle.

"This team is a very capable basketball team. They're just starting to feel good about themselves. It's been a great run but I don't want to get too happy. We have a lot of work to do."

Bobcats smoke the Nuggets

After a seven-game losing streak, the Charlotte Bobcats took the victory from the Denver Nuggets. It came through as a very close game; final score 94-88. The game was sealed by Kareem Rush, when he sunk a three-pointer with only seconds to go in the game. This is kind of ironic because Charlotte has lost their last two games on three-pointers at the buzzer.

Carmelo Anthony scored 21 points for Denver, leading in the scoring. Martin added in 17 points. The team just seemed to not be giving its all.

"We came in and we were sluggish tonight. We fought at the end, but we just didn't have it tonight. Fatigue was the biggest key. We felt like we were playing hard, but obviously we weren't. We really need this break right now."

The Nuggets go up against the Celtics next. Hopefully, their record will improve from 24-29.

Nuggets vs. Timberwolves

Kevin Garnett led in scoring with 24 points; including 11 rebounds and 6 assists. This was a long overdue victory for the Wolves. Minnesota took the victory at 98-92, ending a six-game losing streak. The game stayed pretty even throughout, but the Wolves just showed more of a hustle in the fourth quarter.

"We lost some concentration there at the end. It's hard to beat a good team on the road when you give them extra possessions at key times of the game. But give credit to Minnesota. They were really hustling at the end of the game."

A bigger factor to the win came in the form of Wally Szczerbiak. Szczerbiak, who had 19 points under his belt, assisted Eddie Griffin in landing a three-pointer with only 1:13 left in play. Griffin had only come into the game during the fourth quarter and added 10 points with ease. Sam Cassell was out due to a strained hamstring.

"I saw that Melo was letting the ball go. I ran at it and ended up taking out a little girl in the first row. But I knew that Eddie was under the basket, so I tipped it in that direction and he made the play for us."

Nuggets take out the Pacers

The Nuggets won last Saturday with a score of 95-88. With Kenyon Martin having scored 25 points, the Nuggets appeared strong against the Pacers. This hasn’t been the typical trend.

Denver has only won 5 games out of the last 21 on the road; winning only 2 in their last 5 game road swing. They no longer have the presence of the elite team that they once were. Right now, the team is trying to focus on rebuilding and they proved in this game that this ability still remains.

Darting through the lane, dipping past defenders, Earl Boykins was a blur on the hardwood.

The NBA's smallest player had 25 points and a season-high 10 assists to lift the Denver Nuggets to a 92-82 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday night.

This performance came on the heels of Tuesday's win over Seattle in which the 5-foot-5 guard set a league record with 15 points in overtime. It never got that close this time around.

``I'm surprised every time he steps out on the court,'' Nuggets forward Kenyon Martin said. ``A guy that size. The things he can do. He's got the heart of a lion. It just shows that when your heart's that big and you care that much about playing the game, good things will happen to you.''

Denver snapped Memphis' four-game winning streak and gave interim coach Michael Cooper the first winning streak of his own since taking over the team on Dec. 31. The Nuggets, who have struggled all season, pulled within four games of Memphis for eighth place in the Western Conference -- and the last playoff spot -- with the midpoint of the season close at hand.

Lorenzen Wright scored 17 points and former Nugget James Posey had 15 on five 3-pointers for the Grizzlies, who lost for just the second time in 12 games and only the eighth time in the 25 games since Mike Fratello took over for Hubie Brown as coach.

Memphis played just hours after the sudden death of play-by-play voice Don Poier, 53, who had been calling games for the franchise since its conception in Vancouver in 1995.

``I can't say that the news today affected us,'' Fratello said. ``We had a job to do tonight. We have to sharpen our play.''

Like Boykins, Marcus Camby had a second-consecutive big game, finishing with 18 points, 13 rebounds and six blocked shots after a 25-point, 24-rebound night against the Sonics. That helped the Nuggets win easily without Carmelo Anthony, who sat out after hurting his right ankle Tuesday.

Since Anthony went out in the third quarter of that game, the Nuggets have played better, cutting and moving on offense, pushing the ball when they can and playing more aggressively everywhere on the court. The results on this night were telling: Denver shot 49 percent and outrebounded Memphis 49-24.

A lot of the Denver rebounds resulted in a quick outlet pass to Boykins or Andre Miller, who pushed the pace and helped the Nuggets find easy shots. Miller finished with 14 points and six assists.

``We want to do that all the time,'' Cooper said of the rebound-and-run method. ``Now, they see we're successful when the ball is in Earl's and Andre's hands. Those guys are capable and willing to pass the basketball.''

Fittingly, though, it was a shot by Boykins that essentially sealed this game. Pounding the dribble, Boykins took one big step into the lane, got his defender back on his heels, then stepped back himself for a fadeaway 16-foot jumper. It gave Denver an 87-74 lead with 3:54 left and marked the start of garbage time.

``I feel I shouldn't miss an open shot and I shouldn't turn over the ball,'' Boykins said. ``Slowly but surely, Coop is changing our offense. We're running different plays each game and that makes it tough to scout us.''

Martin returned from missing a game with strep throat and had 13 points and eight rebounds. Martin reared back as if to punch Pao Gasol (eight points, four rebounds) after a hard foul early in the fourth quarter, but the two didn't come to blows and it was nothing like the scene last Friday night when Nene got into a fight with Michael Olowokandi of the Timberwolves.

``K-Mart is a lot like Shaq in that people want to foul him because they know he's a questionable free-throw shooter,'' Cooper said. ``His reaction was great. He knows he's going to get the hard fouls. He bites the bullet and walks away from it.''

Nene missed his third game of a four-game suspension due to the fight.

I have to admit, I didn't think we could pull this off with Carmelo Anthony injured(expected to start back when the road trip begins in Dallas). But low and behold, Earl Boykins had alot in him this game, and stepped up without Anthony. I hope Anthony is back to 100% in the game against the Mavericks(26-12), because they will not go down without a fight. Make it 3 in a row Nuggets!

Mike Montgomery won 26 straight games to start the season last year at Stanford, so celebrating three victories in a row seemed like a strange notion for Golden State's first-year coach.

His players did it for him.

Mickael Pietrus scored a career-high 24 points off the bench and the Warriors won three straight for the first time this season, beating the injury-depleted Denver Nuggets 104-101 on Monday night.

``I'm very happy,'' Pietrus said. ``The most important thing for me is the team and the way we're playing right now.''

Jason Richardson added 18 points and seven rebounds for the Warriors, who hadn't won three in a row since getting seven straight from March 15-28 last season.

Andre Miller had 21 points and a season-high 14 assists but missed two free throws in the final minute for the Nuggets, who extended their season-long losing streak to six games and lost their eighth in nine. Nene added 19 points and nine rebounds, and Marcus Camby had 16 points and 12 boards and received a scare when he landed hard on his wrist on a third-quarter breakaway.

Earl Boykins missed a desperation shot at the buzzer in an attempt to tie it for Denver, which played without star forward and leading scorer Carmelo Anthony and forward Kenyon Martin because of injuries.

``We're not here for a moral victory,'' Camby said. ``We came here to get a win. Despite who we did or didn't have out there, the guys we did have played hard and competed. It's tough not playing with the two best players on your team, but we've been battling injuries all season and guys have found a way to step up.''

The Warriors rallied in the final period after going cold in the third and getting outscored 32-22. They hope to put a solid 48 minutes together soon.

``We're real close. We're getting there,'' Richardson said. ``We want to build a winning streak, and we have the opportunity to build one.''

Richardson's two free throws with 6:25 left pulled the Warriors within 87-85 and Pietrus gave Golden State the lead the next time down the floor with a driving layin. Murphy scored at 5:22 and Richardson had two straight baskets to cap a 15-2 run.

``Games can take a turn very quickly,'' Nuggets coach Jeff Bzdelik said. ``That's what happens when you don't make shots and turn the ball over.''

Golden State, which led by as many as 14, beat Sacramento on Sunday to end an 11-game losing streak in Arco Arena.

Cliff Robinson made three 3-pointers in the first half and finished with 14 points, five assists and four rebounds for Golden State. Troy Murphy added 16 points and 16 boards, and Derek Fisher had 15 points.

Anthony missed his fifth straight game, but expects to return Friday when Denver hosts Philadelphia in its next game. The Nuggets opted to sit him out another day so Anthony will be assured of having two good practices on his ankle before Friday's game.

Martin, the team's second-leading scorer, was sidelined as a precautionary measure because of a mid-back strain on his left side. He was listed as day to day.

Richardson picked up his second offensive foul with 4:51 left in the first quarter, then immediately was hit with a technical for arguing and went to the bench. He didn't return until 5:49 before halftime. Coach Mike Montgomery spoke before the game about playing his stars fewer minutes early so they'd be fresh in the fourth quarter.

The Nuggets opened the game by making 9 of 16 shots, but Golden State's second team sparked the Warriors with a 14-6 spurt to start the second quarter on the way to a 40-32 lead. But Nikoloz Tskitishvili scored seven straight during a 9-2 run to end the half and pull Denver within 53-46 at the break

This loss brings us to 0-6 in the last 6 games.We have been really struggling and all of us are hoping that Michael Cooper can turn this team around. Let's see if Mr. Cooper can get things together and get a solid line up going. Go Nuggets!

Struggling Nuggets fire Bzdelik

Jeff Bzdelik was fired Tuesday as coach of the Denver Nuggets, who are on a six-game losing streak and struggling despite the addition of Kenyon Martin this season.

Assistant Michael Cooper was appointed interim coach.

"Right now, I really felt the team needed a change," general manager Kiki Vandeweghe said. "Sometimes it's nothing the head coach is doing wrong. It's just that a change of voice sometimes is the positive."

Bzdelik is the first NBA coach to be fired this season. Denver was expected to move near the top of the Western Conference after signing Martin, an All-Star power forward. So far, however, the Nuggets have been hurt by injuries and inconsistency.

The Nuggets started the season without power forward Nene and have used 10 different starting lineups, with star forward Carmelo Anthony missing the past five games with a sprained ankle.

Shooting guard Voshon Lenard, Denver's only legitimate outside shooting threat, was lost for the season with a torn Achilles' tendon in the opener.

Denver opened the season 2-5, won 10 of its next 12 games and has lost eight of its last nine, dropping to 13-15 after a 104-101 loss to Golden State on Monday night.

And it wasn't just the losses — it was the way the Nuggets were losing.

Denver lost six games by at least 14 points and was lethargic in several others. The Nuggets have struggled defensively, particularly inside, and that has prevented them from utilizing their fast-break offense, one of the keys to their success last year.

The low point came in a nationally televised 19-point loss to Cleveland on Dec. 3. Bzdelik said he wasn't sure which team was going to show up from game to game and even questioned whether his team was in shape — suggesting the Nuggets may have been tuning him out.

"I didn't feel like the team was responding the way we had hoped," Vandeweghe said. "These things don't happen overnight, it's an evolution. I can't pinpoint when this trend started, but it started a while ago."

Bzdelik was a longtime assistant and scout under Pat Riley in Miami and New York before getting his first head coaching job with the Nuggets in 2002. Though Denver struggled to a league-worst 17-65 record in his first season, Bzdelik was credited with turning the Nuggets into a hardworking, defensive-minded team.

A roster overhaul and the addition of Anthony made all the difference last season. The Nuggets improved by 26 games to 43 wins - the sixth-best turnaround in NBA history — to reach the playoffs for the first time in nine years.

Through all the success, Bzdelik wasn't able to get any security from the front office. General manager Kiki Vandeweghe refused to give Bzdelik a contract extension last season and it seemed the only reason he was back this year was because of a contract clause that called for his option to be picked up if the Nuggets reached the playoffs.

It was a situation that may have had Bzdelik, 73-119 in just over two seasons with Denver, looking over his shoulder.

"Do I think I'm responsible? Yes, I take responsibility," Vandeweghe said. "At the end of the day I take responsibility for all the things that go on here. These are my decisions and some of them are not fun decisions to make."

Cooper, a member of the Los Angeles Lakers' "Showtime" teams of the 1980s, coached the Los Angeles Sparks to two WNBA championships and a finals appearance in four years before joining the Nuggets as an assistant this season.

"This is tough, but my goal now is to get us playing a little better," Cooper said. "We'll concentrate on defense and just try to continue the winning ways this team ended last season and sort of started with at the beginning of the season."

Green Sparks Sixers Past Nuggets

Things were looking pretty blue for the Philadelphia 76ers until Jim O'Brien inserted Willie Green.

Green scored 13 of his season-high 17 points in a seven-minute span of the second half and sparked a stunning turnaround as the 76ers roared back from an 18-point deficit for a 110-102 victory over the Denver Nuggets, their third straight win.

For most of the first three quarters, the 76ers looked lethargic and sloppy, allowing the bigger Nuggets to dominate around the rim and convert turnovers into easy baskets. A one-handed alley-oop slam by Carmelo Anthony capped a 19-6 surge and gave Denver its largest lead at 77-59 with 3:46 left in the third quarter.

That brought out the boo birds at the Wachovia Center and prompted O'Brien to make mass substitutions including Green, who has had a yo-yo second season. Named the starting shooting guard in training camp, he lost his spot, regained it, then lost it again.

Having not played the last two games, Green looked like a colt let out of the barn. His exuberance picked up the defense and led to some badly needed offense as he scored eight points in a 17-4 run that closed the quarter.

"Coach O'Brien said something to me today. He just told to me to not get down on myself and stay ready," Green said. "AI (Allen Iverson) was always staying in my ear. He told me to keep working and stay sharp because my number is going to get called. I was able to go out and have a pretty good game."

"It just says a lot about who he is as a person and as a basketball player," Iverson said. "The stage was set for him to come in make major things happen. Not getting the opportunity to play and then all of a sudden when he gets a chance to play, he gave us the lift that we knew he always could."

It was more of the same in the fourth quarter as Green drilled a 3-pointer and jumper as part of a 12-0 burst that gave Philadelphia the lead for good. Allen Iverson and rookie Andre Iguodala added fast-break baskets that made it 92-86 with 8:19 left.

The stunned Nuggets made four free throws but got no closer. Iverson made a pair of jumpers and Iguodala sank a 3-pointer to cap a 9-1 burst for a 101-90 lead with 5:04 to play. It was at least a two-possession game thereafter, and Green capped the win with four free throws.

"Green just totally changed the entire game in terms of his desperate energy," Denver coach Jeff Bzdelik said. "He was just not going to be denied and his team followed him. It came at a point where we were celebrating. We exhaled and they dug in. Therein lies the story. The game is 48 minutes long and you have to play 48 minutes. We got a little comfortable and full of ourselves."

Green had been averaging 7.6 points per game and had not scored in double figures in December. He made 4-of-5 shots and 8-of-9 free throws, but more important, the Sixers outscored the Nuggets, 51-25, for the 16 minutes he was on the floor.

"I knew that I had to get in there and create some energy," Green said. "If anything, I was going to dive on some loose balls, and foul somebody hard. Anything, just to get a spark on the team. You don't know when your number will get called so, you have to be ready. It's part of being a professional. I was just watching, observing, learning from my mistakes. Then I went out there and played my heart out."

Iverson had 31 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists and Iguodala scored 16 points for Philadelphia, which was swept by Denver last season.

Anthony scored 29 points and Kenyon Martin added 25 for the Nuggets, who fell to 2-2 on their season-high seven-game road trip.

"That was the worst loss of my life," said Nuggets guard Greg Buckner, a former Sixer. "We definitely got too comfortable. The Sixers wanted it more, I guess. They had all the momentum, we just couldn't stop it."

The Sixers played without forward Kenny Thomas, who had flu-like symptoms. The Nuggets were without center Nene, who had a bruised right hip. As a result, Denver was outrebounded, 44-36, and surrendered 20 second-chance points.

Anthony injured

Denver Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony sprained his right ankle after a hard fall in the third quarter Saturday night against the Houston Rockets.

Anthony was headed to the basket on a fast break when Bob Sura bear-hugged him and the two went tumbling out of bounds.

Anthony had to be helped to the locker room. X-rays were negative and his status is day to day.

Anthony had eight points when he left. He was replaced by Francisco Elson, who hit one of two free throws.

Although Anthony got about half his normal playing time, he still got 8 points 3 assists. It look slike MIller, Camby and Martin are going to have to step up inorder to fill up his presence. Heal fast Anthony and Lets get some wins Nuggets and make it 5-1!

Carmelo is ready to play!

Now Carmelo Anthony can concentrate entirely on basketball again. That means defenses all over the NBA better get focused, too.

Hours after prosecutors dropped a drug charge against him, Anthony scored 30 points to help the Denver Nuggets hold off the visiting Toronto Raptors 112-106 on Wednesday night.

``A little bit early in the season I was thinking about it, worrying about what they were going to do, but now I try to put basketball in the middle and work everything else around it,'' Anthony said.

The star forward was charged with possessing less than 1 ounce of marijuana on Oct. 15 after a bag with the drug was found in his backpack as the team waited to board a flight for a preseason game. A friend came forward and said the drugs were his, but the negative attention clearly affected Anthony early this season.

Not anymore.

After shooting 27 percent the first four games, Anthony has made 36 of 76 shots (47 percent) the past four, scoring at least 30 points twice. More importantly, he has been more aggressive, and the smile he flashed so often as a rookie last season has returned.

``Carmelo is active and not settling for jump shots,'' Nuggets coach Jeff Bzdelik said. ``He is taking balls to the hole and hitting the offensive glass, and those kinds of things are needed for him to be a complete scorer.''

In other games, it was: Detroit 93, Minnesota 85; Seattle 79, New Jersey 68; Orlando 107, Utah 92; Indiana 93, Atlanta 86; Washington 110, Boston 105 in overtime; Phoenix 95, New Orleans 84; Miami 113, Milwaukee 106; Memphis 101, Portland 82; Golden State 98, Chicago 85; and the Los Angeles Lakers 103, the Los Angeles Clippers 89.

Anthony also had a key block in the closing minutes and made all 16 free throws, including two with 5.6 seconds left to seal Denver's second win in three games since a 1-4 start.

Kenyon Martin added 24 points and 16 rebounds to give the Nuggets the electrifying 1-2 combination they were hoping for when Martin signed in the offseason.

Denver played without center Marcus Camby and power forward Nene due to hamstring injuries, and Martin did his best to make up for their absence with his usual aggressive play.

``People have been looking for that since the start of the season,'' Anthony said. ``We gave them what they want to see and hopefully we can carry it on to the next game and throughout the season.''

I hope that with his mind totally on basketball, he can play back up to his potential. It was clearly shown in the game against the Raptors, all we can do is just hope he can keep up the good work. Its good that he got out when he did, because who knows when we could be plagued with a serious injury. Luckily we have been limited to only Lenard this season. Lets pump it back up and hope that the drug charges can stay in the past!

Shimmering Pre-season wins, havn't come alive so far

DENVER (AP) -- In an elevator with his entourage just after halftime, Denver Broncos cornerback Champ Bailey was asked why he was leaving the Nuggets'
game so early. ``It's a bad show, man,'' he replied.
Bailey isn't the only one who thinks so.

The surprise of the NBA a year ago, the Denver Nuggets have been surprisingly bad this season. With a stagnant offense and not much more movement on defense, the Nuggets are 1-2 and hearing it from the hometown fans.
``We're just not playing, plain and simple,'' point guard Earl Boykins
said. The once-woeful Nuggets had a breakout season in 2003-04, finishing
43-39 to reach the playoffs for the first time in nine years. This from a team
that won 17 games the year before. The bar was raised even higher this season
because Denver added All-Star power forward Kenyon Martin and kept just about
everybody else.But the Nuggets were woeful in an 11-point loss at the Los
Angeles Lakers in the opener, eked out a sloppy victory against Minnesota on
Thursday, then were booed off their home court following Saturday's 106-82 loss
to Utah. And it doesn't get much easier. Next up is another game against the
Jazz, followed by Seattle, defending champion Detroit and a road game against
Sacramento. Making matters worse, the Nuggets lost shooting guard Voshon
Lenard for the season when he tore his Achilles' tendon against the Lakers.
Outside shooting was already a weak point.
Denver used DerMarr Johnson as Lenard's replacement against the Timberwolves, but he wasn't much of a factor, managing two points in 15 minutes. The Nuggets switched to defensive-minded Greg Buckner against the Jazz and had similar results from him -- four points in 17 minutes. With no one hitting shots from the perimeter for the Nuggets, opponents have been able to pack the paint against the Nuggets.
One of the league's top-5 scoring teams a year ago, the Nuggets rank 27th at 84.6 points a game -- 13 fewer than last year. Denver also has failed to shoot 40 percent in all three games and is at 37.3 for the season, third-worst in the league. ``We've abandoned everything we worked on in the preseason in terms of sharing and moving and playing together as a team with energy,'' coach Jeff Bzdelik said. Part of the problem is that the Nuggets have had a hard time getting into their offense, standing around until someone is forced to create something one-on one. Denver also hasn't been able to get out and run, a strong point last season, when it averaged 19 fast-break points. The Nuggets scored 28 against Minnesota but managed just 17 combined in the two losses.
``Everyone understands this team is built to run, it's built to move,''
general manager Kiki Vandeweghe said. ``It's a matter of 'OK, how do we get guys
do that?'''
Playing better defense might help.
The Nuggets are allowing
95 points per game and opponents are shooting 46 percent against them, providing
little chance to push the pace. After all, it's not easy to run when you're
pulling the ball out of the net so often.
``It should be a very good
defensive team, a very good defensive rebounding team and a great running
team,'' Vandeweghe said. ``We've done it at times, just not enough.''
Then
there's Carmelo Anthony.
Last year's rookie sensation didn't play much in
the Olympics, was involved in a scuffle at a bar and was ticketed for having
marijuana in his backpack while boarding the team's plane during the preseason.
It hasn't gotten much better now that the season has started
After
moving without the ball so well in the preseason, Anthony has been mostly
stationary so far, lingering around the wings and forcing long jumpers.
Most
have missed.
Anthony is averaging 15.3 points, but he's shooting just 25
percent -- 1-of-9 on 3-pointers. The star was even benched to start the second
half against the Jazz, sitting there most of the third quarter before finishing
off a 3-for-20 night.
``There's so much pressure on him to succeed that it's
getting to him,'' Martin said. ``He needs to relax. He played so well last year
that if he plays bad you guys go write stuff about him. The game doesn't change,
he just needs to relax.''

With a great high-scoring run of preseason games, it is a shame we have gotten off to such a slow start. The fact of the matter is that we just need to kick it into a higher gear. The game against Utah was sloppy going both ways and the mistakes piled up. They were holding our offense and crushing our defense. Carmelo Anthony had nothing going for him that game. They held him to 15% shooting. Earl Boykins played well but it wasn't close to enough to make up 24 points. I guess we have to hope for a better performance. GO Nuggets!

Nuggets Win; Pacers Lose Miller

The Indiana Pacers may be without Reggie Miller for much longer.The Indiana Pacers' veteran shooting guard suffered a broken bone in his left hand in the first quarter of a 98-79 loss to the Nuggets.

Miller, who is entering his 18th season with the club, was injured while running through a screen. The team did not immediately disclose how long Miller would be sidelined.

Without three of their top players, the Nuggets concluded a 7-1 preason. They open the regular season at the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday.

Led by Nenê, who scored 17 points, the Nuggets had six players score in double figures. Rodney White added 16, Greg Buckner had 12 and Francisco Elson, Earl Boykins and DerMarr Johnson chipped in with 10 apiece.

Ron Artest scored 24 points and Stephen Jackson added 17 off the bench for Indiana (6-2), which opens the regular season at Cleveland on Wednesday.
